How long is a US passport valid for?

Follow

If the passport was issued when you were 16 years or older, the passport is valid for 10 years.

If the passport was issued when you were 15 years old or younger, the passport is valid for 5 years.

If the passport was issued as a replacement outside of the US, the typical validity is 1 year.

Upon return to the United States, this passport may be extended to full the 10 year validity at no

charge with  form DS-5504, (also known as Passport Re-Application) if applied for within 1 year of the

issue date of the replacement passport.
