Why was I issued a visa with less validity then what I requested?

When adjudicating a visa, the consular officer takes into consideration many factors such as nationality, history of previous international travel, ties to the US, financial means, tenure and seniority of employment and lack of criminal background etc.

The processing time and length of the visa is not guaranteed. Consulates have discretion to decide the processing time and length of the visa on a case by case basis. They do not follow a predictable pattern and within the same office, different adjudicating officers can resolve seemingly similar applications in very different ways.
