You may have heard of a Vietnam VOA or "visa on arrival" Does this mean that a traveler can board a plane to Vietnam with just their passport and receive their visa once they land in Vietnam? You might be surprised to find out that this is not the case.
If you are planning on obtaining a Vietnam Visa on arrival you will need to first apply for an approval letter from the Immigration Department of Vietnam. You will not be allowed to board your plane without this document.
This visa is good for Air travel only, and can only be used at Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City International Airports.
Once you arrive in Vietnam you will need to present your approval letter, two passport photos, and your passport to the immigration office at the airport.
It is recommended that you obtain a Vietnam visa or a Vietnam paper (loose leaf) visa prior to travel.
